So far in December we have got about half of the Bus-Tops installed. You might have seen them popping up in Camden, Hampstead Heath, Bromley, Lewisham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and more. Right now they are simply showing a sort of countdown graphic which we update remotely each day, testing out how the site will send content to the installations on a daily basis (or more). Some of the installations have not yet had the electrics plumbed in and so are blank and mysterious.
Tuur and I spent a couple of hours last night troubleshooting some issues at the installation on Kingsland Road in Hackney. The top row of LED’s wasn’t showing content properly, and there was a slight amount of damage from the installation day.
We fixed things in the freezing cold (an easy fix as it turned out, though lengthy) and I took the opportunity to spy how people on the top deck were reacting to the message displayed on the screen (16 days until we live). It was really something. It was the first time I’ve had a chance to see this, and was pleasantly gratified to see the narrowing of eyes, and the soundless movement of lips reading the message, wondering it seemed deeply what it was they were seeing.
Have you seen a Bus-Top yet?
